Our Director Jesse joined Microsoft’s for the Executive AI Experience in Seattle. After a huge three days immersed in everything Copilot and AI we’re now thinking about how this technology can add value for regional business operations.

When New Future IT received a very special invitation from Microsoft to attend their first Executive AI Experience at the Microsoft campus in Redmond, our Director Jesse packed his bags and headed for Seattle.

For three days, Jesse was at Microsoft's Executive Briefing Centre , immersing himself in all things Microsoft Copilot and AI . He learnt directly from the people shaping where this technology is heading, and explored what it means for businesses like the ones we support every day.

The long journey to the USA

Getting from the Territory to Seattle is no quick hop. Jesse's journey included a stopover in LA, where he snapped something you definitely won't see on Aussie roads: a Tesla Cybertruck. Crazy tech, and nothing like any truck we see in Australia!

Seattle welcomed him with cooler weather and trees turning red. A bit cold, but a very nice change of scenery for a Territorian.

Before the event began, Jesse visited the Museum of Flight in Seattle, a fitting warm up for a week all about what's next.

He also joined the Australian Microsoft team for dinner at The Cheesecake Factory in Bellevue, a great chance to connect before the real work started.

Three days in the room where it happens

For three days, Jesse was at Microsoft's Executive Briefing Centre, immersed in all things Microsoft Copilot and AI.

Not reading about it. Not watching a webinar. Learning directly from the people shaping where this technology is heading.

Jesse had direct access to Microsoft's latest thinking on AI, cloud, security, modern work and business transformation.

He watched Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat draw on an organisation's own knowledge to summarise information, create content and help people make decisions faster, all from a simple question asked in plain language.

He saw how Copilot Autopilot compiles multiple tasks into one process to achieve multiple outcomes. And how GitHub Copilot is helping developers write better code, faster.

Then came the AI agents . Picture AI that doesn't just answer questions, but actually runs business processes, responds to requests and coordinates tasks with minimal human input. That's where things are heading.

Copilot Autopilot, Microsoft's latest AI Agent rounded it out, showing how new devices can be set up automatically, with stronger security and a consistent experience for every user.

Day three started with a hands on session alongside a wonderful group of people from across ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Alongside the sessions Jesse connected with representatives from the Fiji Government, connecting about the Oceanic region.

It was a reminder that we're part of a huge region full of people working through the same big questions about technology, opportunity and what comes next.

Inside the Future of AI

Then came the Microsoft Azure Cloud Collaboration Centre. Jesse called it "an hour glimpse into the future" and when you hear what he saw, it's hard to disagree.

Imagine terabytes of backup data stored on glass. Imagine data packed so densely it's built on a DNA model. Imagine data centres designed around retaining and saving water.

That's not science fiction. That's what Jesse saw. And it's the kind of thinking that sits behind the cloud services Territory businesses use every single day.

Jesse's absolute highlight of the experiance was clear:

Microsoft's Cybercrime Centre.

"Being inside the Microsoft Cybercrime Centre was something special. Seeing the work happening there every day to protect organisations from serious cyber threats was a powerful reminder of why security has to sit at the heart of everything we do for our clients."

Standing beside him was Glen Hingley from the Chamber of Commerce, the two of them representing the Northern Territory in a place where the fight against cybercrime is happening right now.

Why we made the journey

The Executive AI Experience gave Jesse time to explore Copilot and AI in depth, including hands-on learning. We want to translate that learning into clearer conversations with our clients: where could AI help, what foundations need attention, and what would a useful first step look like?

Technology moves quickly.

There is always another platform, product, security tool, AI capability or piece of hardware promising to change the way businesses work.

But for most businesses, the challenge isn't finding more technology .

It's working out which technology is actually worth paying attention to.

That's why staying connected to what's happening across the wider technology industry is an important part of what we do at New Future IT.

Recently, Matt from our Adelaide team attended LEADER Expo in Adelaide , spending time with technology vendors and industry leaders, exploring new solutions and getting a closer look at where the industry is heading.

But we weren't there simply to see what's new.

We were there to ask a much more useful question:

What could actually make a difference to the businesses we support?

Not every new technology belongs in your business

Innovation can easily become a buzzword.

Something new launches and suddenly businesses are being told they need it.

AI is probably the clearest current example. But the same thing happens across cybersecurity, cloud, communications, devices and almost every other area of business technology.

At New Future IT, we don't believe being innovative means being the first to implement every new piece of technology.

Sometimes the smartest technology decision is adopting something new.

Sometimes it's improving what you already have.

And sometimes it's deciding that the latest trend doesn't solve a problem your business actually has.

The questions we ask before recommending new technology

When we're exploring a new product or capability, we're thinking about the businesses that will eventually use it.

Where does it genuinely improve the user experience?

Matt came away from LEADER Expo with new ideas, stronger industry connections and plenty for our wider team to explore.

Some of those technologies may eventually become part of the solutions we recommend.

Our job isn't to bring every new technology to our clients.

It's to understand what's changing, filter out the noise and help our clients recognise the opportunities that genuinely make their businesses better.

Inspiring the next generation at the Big Rivers Region Career Expo

Sometimes the first step towards a career is simply seeing what’s possible.
Last week, Jeremy and Tristan spent the day at the Big River Region Career Expo at Katherine High School, chatting with students about careers in technology and the different pathways the industry can open up.
And having Tristan there made that message particularly meaningful.
Tristan is from Katherine himself, he knows what it’s like to grow up in the region, and he’s building his own career in IT with New Future IT, This event provided Tristan with the opportunity to connect with students, showing students that opportunities in technology aren’t something that only exist in the major cities. They can start right here.
For us, that’s what events like this are really about. Not simply talking about jobs, but helping young people see a future they may not have considered before.
There were plenty of great conversations, questions and curiosity throughout the day, and hopefully a few students walked away thinking: “I could do that too.”
Regional communities are full of talented young people. Sometimes they just need the opportunity to see where that talent could take them.

Building the Future of IT Starts With the People Entering It

Technology changes quickly.

But the future of our industry isn't determined by technology alone. It is shaped by the people who are given the opportunity to learn it, work with it and eventually find their own place within the industry.

That's one of the reasons our Director, Jesse, continues to participate in the Charles Darwin University Mentor Program.

For Jesse, mentoring isn't simply about sharing what he has learned throughout his career. It's an opportunity to connect with the next generation of professionals coming into the industry, understand how they see its future and help bridge the space between university and the workplace.

And that exchange works both ways.

As Jesse reflected during one of his previous years participating in the program:

“I thought it was me giving something, but the truth is I am getting a lot of value from this program.”

That perhaps says more about the value of mentoring than anything else.

There is knowledge you can't get from a textbook

University can build technical knowledge and capability.

Industry provides another layer.

It introduces the conversations that happen with a client when something has gone wrong. The judgement required when there isn't an obvious solution. The realities of working across different industries, organisations and communities.

It also helps students understand that building a career in technology isn't necessarily about having their entire pathway mapped out from day one.

Sometimes it's about having someone further along the road who can provide perspective, ask the right questions and help you recognise opportunities you may not have considered.

That's where mentoring can make a genuine difference.

Creating pathways into the Territory's technology industry

For us, this is also about something bigger.

We want talented people studying technology in the Northern Territory to be able to see a future for themselves in the Northern Territory .

The Territory needs skilled technology professionals, but developing that capability doesn't start when someone applies for a job.

It starts by creating connections between education and industry. By exposing students to real businesses and real career pathways. By giving emerging professionals opportunities to build networks, confidence and practical understanding alongside their qualifications.

Programs that connect students with people already working within the industry help make those pathways more visible.

And when local businesses participate, we're not only investing in individual students. We're contributing to the capability of the industry around us.

We've seen firsthand what can happen when those connections continue beyond the mentoring program.

Two years ago, Jesse mentored CDU IT student Ahad Chowdhury while Ahad was still studying. Earlier this year, that relationship came full circle when Ahad joined our team as an intern.

The journey from university student, to mentee, to gaining practical experience within the industry is exactly the kind of pathway we want to see more of in the Territory. Not every mentoring relationship will result in someone working with us, nor should it.

The bigger objective is creating an industry where emerging professionals have access to people, experience, networks and opportunities that help them take their next step.

Because when more young professionals find their way into technology careers here, the entire Territory benefits.

An industry grows when people invest in people

At New Future IT, we've always believed technology should create access.

Access to technology and support regardless of where an organisation operates.

And access to career opportunities for people who want to build a future in our industry.

That's why initiatives such as the CDU Mentor Program matter to us.

Throughout the forum, Jesse and Jeremy connected with a wide range of industry leaders who are shaping the future of technology across the Asia-Pacific region. It was an inspiring opportunity to sit down with the people behind the products and explore how their innovations can translate into real value for our clients back home.

They spent time with the team from Leader Systems, including Jaimie, discussing new programs and ways we can continue delivering more capability and affordability to regional businesses. Conversations with MSI’s Shirley gave us deeper insight into upcoming hardware advancements and how these new developments can expand the options available to Australian customers.

Power protection and business continuity were strong themes too. Last month, our Director, Jesse, embarked on a journey covering more than 1,000km by air from Darwin to Mornington Island in Queensland—a tiny but proud community nestled in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The journey might’ve been long, but the outcome made every kilometre worth it.

Enhancing Access to Essential Services

Our journey from Darwin to Mornington Island covered more than just distance—it bridged a critical gap in access to technology and essential services for one of Queensland’s most remote communities.

This trip was about listening, learning, and making sure that our technology helps real people in real ways.

Mornington Island may be isolated by geography, but it’s home to people who deserve the same level of digital support and service access as anyone in the country.

Partnering with Services Australia, we delivered and installed dedicated workstations that allow residents to access critical platforms like Centrelink, Medicare, and the ATO—right from their own community.

For many on Mornington Island, this changes everything.

Instead of relying on long wait times, limited phone service, or needing to travel off-island for basic support, locals can now manage their own affairs—onsite, securely, and independently. Whether it’s updating family payments, submitting tax returns, or accessing healthcare benefits, they now have the tools to do it without leaving the island.

And in communities like this—where reliable support can sometimes feel out of reach—that kind of access isn’t just helpful. It’s empowering.

It means dignity. It means choice. And it means locals are now better equipped to manage their own futures, without unnecessary barriers.

This wasn’t just a tech install—it was a step toward greater equity.

A Community That Leaves a Mark

Mornington Island, known traditionally as the land of the Lardil people, is rich in culture and resilience. Around 1,200 people call this island home, and from the moment we arrived in the township of Gununa, we were welcomed with open arms and warm smiles.

Our Director, Jesse, shared just how much the visit meant to him personally:

“The welcome from the Mornington Island community was incredible. It reminded me why we do what we do—showing up, solving problems, and building something real with communities that are too often overlooked.”

It wasn’t just a project—it was an experience. One filled with meaningful conversations, new connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.

It’s exciting for all of us here at New Future IT to be working with the Northern Territory Government and our partners to create opportunities in technology for territorians.

A terrific morning having Minister Ngaree Ah Kit visit our office and spend time with our team meeting them and hearing about their career pathways.

The minister was joined by representatives from the Department of Corporate and Digital Development as well as leaders of several ICT companies. Seeing so many people sharing the same desire to create opportunities in technology gives us more energy and confidence to continue our mission and try and do more.

Investing In Territory Trainees to Boost Digital Industry

Our Territory Labor Government is developing skills locally as we work towards a $40 billion economy by 2030.

We know that digital skills will be in high demand and that homegrown talent and career path development is the best way to grow local industries to reach this economic target.

We are helping young Territorians into digital careers and growing the Territory’s digital capacity with a Cross Sector Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Traineeship Program.

This is a joint initiative with the ICT Industry Association of NT (ICTNT) with $230,000 allocated to help young Territorians start their digital careers with a local digital business.

The program aims to provide more investment in the training and development of young Territorians, increase the number of ICT trainees in the NT, and support local digital industry growth and capability.

It is open to any local digital business that employs or intends to employ ICT trainees in the NT.

The first cohort of trainees recently commenced with New Future IT , NEC, and Kinetic IT with more traineeships currently available.
